Welcome to my home page!
My work focuses on Strategy Dynamics – a fact-based approach to understanding and delivering business performance through time. Whilst much writing claims to be about ‘dynamics', the target of my work is to answer some simple, but challenging questions:
- Why is business performance following its current path?
- Where is it going if we carry on as we are?
- How can we design a robust strategy to radically improve performance into the future?
[Non-commercial situations still feature objectives for performance over time, though not necessarily focusing on earnings outcomes]. Remarkably, though these questions are of universal importance, charts like this of performance-through-time are almost entirely absent from existing Strategy books, a shortcoming addressed with the publication in July 2002, by Wiley of "Competitive Strategy Dynamics". This is intended as a valuable complement to existing courses in strategy and general management, as well as a reference text for professionals in corporate development, consulting and business analysis.
As an Teaching Fellow, my work is primarily educational, involving in particular a highly popular elective course to all our degree-course students and to executives at all levels. Effective communication of practical and rigorous methods also requires sound publications and learning materials. These have been developed to support educators in Business Schools and other organizations who wish to help others take on the principles and skills of Strategy Dynamics. These materials, and the strategy dynamics approach is also widely used in executive education, where managers learn to tackle their own challenges with this powerful but practical approach.
